Monza Circuit: Wheelchair GP and DJ4 join forces for charity

Last updated on: 4 July 2022

The project Wheelchair GP (an electric wheelchair race for people with neuromuscular conditions) which we at DJ4 have been supporting for two years now; until now, it has been held on go-kart tracks (including the one at Monica del Garda, for which we produced a video).

Last Sunday, however, the Wheelchair GP took place at the famous Monza International Circuit. A special circuit was set up in the paddock area during the event 6 Wheels of Hope, organised by the UILDM: it takes place every year on 1 November at the Monza Circuit, to give people with disabilities the chance to enjoy a special day, taking laps of the track in dream cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani, driven by professional drivers (including Ivan Capelli) and enthusiasts.

But let’s get back to the Wheelchair GP race, organised by President Michele Sanguine (who also serves as a councillor for the UILDM in Varese): after a few laps of the track in go-karts (with comedian Marco Della Noce among the drivers), it was time for qualifying (Samuele Giampietro set the fastest time of 15.06 seconds), followed by the race, which saw a truly thrilling battle between the competitors: here is the podium:

1st Fabio Amenta – 2nd Samuele Giampietro – 3rd Enzo Lucà

The event was a great success, thanks in part to the presence of representatives from the institutions (Italian Air Force, the Carabinieri, the Police, the Fire Brigade, the Guardia di Finanza and the Italian Army), who displayed their specialist vehicles.

As we look forward to repeating the event next year, we would like to remind you that Wheelchair GP has presented the project (at the UILDM headquarters in Monza) for a fully-fledged national team championship, with teams made up of two drivers: shall we bet that team principal Michele Sanguine will manage to rise to this new challenge as well? See you soon!

PS: If you’d like to support the project, as we at DJ4 have done, you can put yourself forward as sponsor (info@wheelchairgp.com) or contact the UILDM in Varese for donations!
