Sanremo Festival 2025: the men won, but the women got us dancing!

The 75th edition of the Sanremo Festival, which concluded with a huge success in terms of viewing figures, saw the top three places go to three men. The gold medal went to Olly, with his “Silly nostalgia“. The Genoese singer-songwriter won over audiences and critics alike, beating fierce rivals such as Lucio Corsi, who came second with “Volevo essere un duro”, a folk-rock-style track, and Brunori Sas, who came third with “L’albero delle noci” (a track that showcases his poetic flair and refined musical style).

These are undoubtedly valuable songs, but – let’s be clear – they certainly don’t have that danceable, get-people-moving vibe: they’re certainly not the sort of tracks we at DJ4 would play at a party to get everyone together.

THE RHYTHM OF THE WOMEN AT THE FESTIVAL

Women’s performances, on the other hand, were, on average, undoubtedly more captivating e stimulants, especially those by younger female artists.

Sara Toscano – “Amarcord”: The piece has a slow, melancholic feel, characterised by a triple metre (waltz) that evokes a retro, nostalgic atmosphere. The melody is sweet and captivating, with an emphasis on sustained notes and a sinuous flow.

Rose Villain – “Outlaw”: Fast-paced and powerful, with an electronic rhythm section and a strong beat. The melody is feisty and provocative, alternating between rap verses and melodic choruses. In short, Rose has produced a track that has made its mark.

Clara – “Fever”: The track has a lively, infectious rhythm, with a modern pop beat and some electronic elements. The melody is catchy and sensual, with a chorus that easily sticks in your head. Although Clara is just starting out – or has only been around for a short while – she shows real promise.

Elodie – “Forget it at 7”: Danceable and sensual, with a groove reminiscent of R&B and a driving beat. The melody is catchy and rhythmic. With a well-crafted remix, it’ll be perfect for the dance floor too.

Serena Brancale – “Anema e core”: The track has a rhythm that weaves soul and funk influences (the Apulian singer, incidentally, performed on electronic drums). The melody è hot e enveloping, with a vocal performance intense e passionate,

Coma_Cose – “Little Hearts”: This song is lively and playful, with a syncopated rhythm and a light beat. The melody is simple and catchy, with ironic and amusing lyrics. Want to bet it’ll be a huge hit with the very young?

Gaia – “I’ll call, you call”: The track features a fast-paced, dynamic rhythm, with a modern pop beat and carefully crafted electronic elements. The melody is energetic and captivating, with a chorus that bursts into a whirlwind of sounds.

KOLORS, THE RETURN OF BENJI AND FEDE, AND THE BEAT OF JOVANOTTI

And what about the men? Well, as I said, they certainly didn’t impress with their verve this year, with the exception of the Kolors, with their
“Who do you make love to?“. A track characterised by a real “kick”, typical of the pop-dance sound that made the band famous. The song stands out for its energy and dynamic rhythm. We don’t know if it will match the success of “Italodisco”, but – perhaps in a remixed version – it might well keep us company on the dance floor for a while.

As we’ve said, the male contestants were a bit ’lacklustre“; the guests, however, thankfully performed a few numbers that really ”warmed up“ the audience at the Suzuki Stage in Piazza Colombo (the area where the live broadcasts took place):
Benji & Fede, having recently got back together, have re-released “Where and when” (on the fourth evening), whilst Jovanotti, during Tuesday’s first live show, he delivered a string of hits, each one better than the last: The Navel of the World, The Greatest Show Since the Big Bang, I Love You Baby, Off-Air, To You and A World Apart.

A TRIBUTE TO THE 80s AND 90s

Anyone who has followed the Festival fairly closely cannot fail to have noticed a celebration of the 1980s, featuring prestigious “vintage” guests.

We’d like to highlight the return to Sanremo of the legendary Duran Duran, who received the “Amici di Sanremo” Award (on the third night): they performed a successful medley that captured moments of romance and escapism: ‘Invisible’, ‘Notorious’, ‘Ordinary World’, ‘Girls on Film’, ‘Psycho Killer’ (with Victoria De Angelis) and ‘The Wild Boys’.

The live performance by was also very well received by the audience Raf (live from the Suzuki Stage in Piazza Colombo in the early evening): the legendary “Self-control ” published in 1984 taken from the album *Raf* (released in 21 countries, it quickly reached number one on the singles charts in Italy and Switzerland and was also a major hit in Germany, Spain and Austria).

Then, during the cover night, the Coma_Things They performed “Summer is coming to an end” (a 1985 track by Righeira) featuring the band’s “50%”, namely Johnson Righeira.

SANREMO 2025: A GOOD YEAR FOR ITALIAN HIP HOP

The 2025 edition of the Sanremo Festival will be remembered for the massive presence of artists from the Italian rap and hip-hop scene. Three tracks in particular caught the attention of audiences and critics alike: “A thousand times more” by Rocco Hunt, “Heartbeat” by Fedez and “My word” by Shablo featuring Guè, Joshua and Tormento.

Rocco Hunt, a veteran of the Italian rap scene, returns to Sanremo with a powerful and melodic track, featuring a catchy chorus and lyrics that tackle important social issues. Fedez, on the other hand, presents a more introspective and personal track, experimenting with sounds that are more electronic, in which he speaks of his vulnerabilities and fears. “La mia parola” by Shablo, Guè, Joshua and Tormento is a track that celebrates hip-hop culture, with lyrics full of quotes and references to the genre’s history (incidentally, during the cover night, Shablo, Guè, Joshua and Tormento were joined on stage by Neffa, who performed his 1996 masterpiece, “Aspettando il sole”).

Although the three tracks are very different from one another, they have one thing in common: their ability to depict contemporary reality through the language of rap and hip hop. The participation of these three artists in the Sanremo Festival is an important sign for the Italian hip hop scene, which is proving to be increasingly vibrant and creative.

SANREMO FESTIVAL 2025: THERE WAS ROOM FOR DANCE TOO

Unlike the festivals held under Amadeus’s auspices, this year’s edition proved to be somewhat less influenced by dance and house music; however, there are three tracks that really stood out.
Rather than quantity… the focus has been on quality.

Gabry Ponte: the theme tune that had everyone going wild

It was up to Gabry Ponte, one of Italy’s most famous DJs and producers, with his theme tune “Tutta l’Italia”, a catchy, upbeat track that instantly won everyone’s hearts. The song, characterised by a blend of electronic sounds and elements of traditional Italian music, became a real hit, providing the soundtrack to the days and evenings of Sanremo 2025. Gabry Ponte is often a regular feature at the liveliest DJ sets: ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’, his most famous track, released in 1999 with Eiffel 65, topped the charts in many countries, becoming a global hit; ‘Geordie’, released in 2002, was one of that summer’s hits, remaining etched in the collective memory thanks to its infectious beat; ‘La danza delle streghe’, released in 2003, is a track with a darker sound, but one that nonetheless climbed the sales charts; ‘Figli di Pitagora’, released in 2004, features a collaboration with Little Tony; ‘Che ne sanno i 2000’ is a 2017 track that has become an anthem for the generation born in the new millennium; ‘Thunder’ is one of his most recent productions, created in collaboration with LUM!X and Prezioso, released in 2021 and an instant hit; ‘Monster’, also produced with LUM!X, was released in 2022 and is one of his most-streamed songs on music streaming platforms. Gabry Ponte is a must-have in any party playlist because his songs are a mix of infectious beats, catchy melodies and lyrics that stick in the collective memory – perfect for creating a festive and fun atmosphere.

Offenbach: an international flavour at the Festival

Ofenbach’s appearance at the 2025 Sanremo Festival brought a breath of fresh air and an international flavour. The French DJ and producer duo, famous worldwide for their global hits, collaborated with Sarah Toscano during the “Cover” segment, where she performed their famous 2023 track “Overdrive”, featuring their unique and unmistakable electronic sound. Ofenbach’s participation in the Festival is a sign of the event’s openness to international dance music. Ofenbach, who rose to fame primarily through their hits “Be Mine” and “Katchi”, achieved prominence in 2016, climbing the European charts. Throughout their career, they have collaborated with various artists and have also produced remixes for tracks by Bob Sinclar and James Bay. Among their most famous tracks, in addition to the aforementioned “Be Mine” and “Katchi”, are “Paradise”, “Rock It” and ’Wasted Love”. On nights when there’s room for a bit of club music, the French duo are a must-see.

Planet Funk: a tribute to the history of music

The Festival’s closing night was brought to life by a thrilling performance (broadcast live from the Tuscan coast) by Planet Funk, a band that has made its mark on the history of Italian dance music. Their tribute to “Nights in White Satin“, one of the most iconic tracks in psychedelic rock, moved the audience at the Ariston and transported them into a world of dreams. Planet Funk’s performance was a moment of great emotional intensity, demonstrating how dance music can also be a vehicle for deep emotions and unforgettable memories.
