SANREMO 2024: A FESTIVAL TO DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY

As well as reporting the previously known results of the Sanremo Festival 2024 (1st: Angelina Mango with “La noia”; 2nd: Geolier with “I p’ me, tu p’ te”; and 3rd: Annalisa with “Sinceramente”), here at DJ4 We want to give you an insider’s perspective on the event, focusing on “happy”, danceable music that’s perfect for a party; this year, there was no shortage of interesting material, both among the songs by the competing artists and among the guest performers. Just like last year with Lazza and his track “Ash” and with Paola and Chiara – “Furore” (both appearing as guests this year, performing via video link from the Suzuki Stage) – this year’s line-up has once again provided us with tracks that are sure to get the crowd going.

Also Angelina Mango, with her “Boredom”, which triumphed at this 74th Italian Song Festival, really gets heads bobbing – and more besides – thanks to its Latin rhythm with a touch of ’Shakira“: it’s almost a summery track… a glimpse of the warm season ahead.

And how could we not mention the The Rich and the Poor, with “but not for the rest of your life”? Well, when it comes to light-hearted, catchy music, these “lads” really know their stuff. And they proved it once again on the fourth night, when they performed, alongside the wonderful Paola & Chiara, an explosive medley that turned the theatre into one big party: Maybe it’s because I love you e Mum Maria.

And speaking of Italian music to sing and dance to, they were every bit as good – again on Friday evening, Alessandra Amoroso and Boomdabash, with the tracks “Le radici ca tieni”, “Salento Mambo” and “Karaoke“.

I The Kolors, who have brought Italodisco back into fashion, have revived the hits of Umberto Tozzi “Ti amo”, “Tu” and “Gloria”, offering, together with the Turin-based singer, a slightly funkier and much more energetic take on them.

And so as not to disappoint fans of the rock, and there was also a cover of Donatella’s ‘Lamette’ Vice-Chancellor, performed with La Sad, a Milan-based band that has forged its own musical identity through a blend of genres such as pop punk, emo and trap music.

SANREMO 2024: A GLIMPSE INTO ITALIAN HIP HOP

But the 2024 Sanremo Festival should also be remembered for providing a major showcase for music hip hop, with Geolier (“I’ll do mine, you do yours”, which came second in the final standings) and Ghali (“My house”). The cover night was also very interesting, thanks to the presence of two top-class artists from the rap genre: Guè, and Luchè They performed with Geolier and Gigi d’Alessio “Roads” (a collage of classical pieces, comprising “Thrill“/”First Love’/”Tears””).

DANCE MUSIC: BOB SINCLAR AND GIGI D’AGOSTINO TO BE BEHIND THE DECKS AT SANREMO 2024

Over the years, the Festival has also embraced more dance (remember Meduza, who were among the guests in 2022?) but never quite like this year’s edition. On the fourth night of the Sanremo Festival, dedicated to cover versions, Fred De Palma with the Eiffel 65 features a selection of the Turin-based band’s greatest hits: “Too Much of Heaven“, “Come and travel with me” and, finally, “Blue“, one of the anthems of the 90s. But speaking of songs that defined that magical decade, we’d like to recall the Captain’s brilliant performance Gigi D’Agostino, who, after a long hiatus due to health problems, returned to the stage to perform his most famous hits from the Costa Smeralda stage in a medley that began with “L’Amour Toujours” and ended with “La Passion”, including “Words of Love”, “Ultra Symphony”, “In My Mind”, “Another Way”, “Bla Bla Bla”, “Glitter” and “Rectangle”. Gigi d’Agostino is a true “icon” of Italian dance music, famous all over the world: just think that “Love Forever“, which was covered last year by Mara Sattei and Noemi, has racked up a total of 465 million views to date, counting only her YouTube channel.

This year, artistic director Amadeus has also managed to secure the participation of one of the world’s leading international DJs, namely Bob Sinclar, who performed his DJ set featuring a selection of both international and Italian hits. Broadcasting live from the Costa Smeralda, the French record producer got everyone dancing to “When it comes to making love, you go first” by Raffaella Carrà, “I can hear you” by Matia Bazar, and one of the tracks secured his success: “Love Generation”.
