The 2024 Oscars: from film soundtracks to your party

The ceremony of the Oscar of the 2024 (96th edition) took place with great pomp and prestige on 10 March 2024 at the sumptuous Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Once again, the renowned event was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who returned to the role for the fourth time. The ceremony was a real feast for the eyes and ears, with extraordinary musical performances that added to the already electrifying atmosphere of the world’s most important film awards ceremony.

Billie Eilish captivated the audience with her live performance of “What Was I Made For?“, a track that won her the award for Best Original Song. Accompanied on the piano by her talented brother Finneas and the orchestra, she delivered an intimate and delicate performance, perfectly in tune with the emotions of the film “Barbie” (which we shall quote again later).

But amongst the live performances between the award ceremonies, the duet by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli, featuring a moving new rendition of “I’ll Set Off with You / Time to Say Goodbye“, during the “In memoriam” segment, touched the hearts of everyone present, adding a touch of emotion and remembrance to the evening. The track, rearranged and produced by the two-time Oscar winner Hans Zimmer (the author we’ve been talking about HERE) is already available on Decca Records, and it will come as no surprise if it becomes one of the most sought-after tracks to accompany epic and significant moments at corporate events and beyond.

A LITTLE RAGGAETON… TO GET THE MOOD GOING

Becky G brought all her energy to the stage with “The Fire Inside” from the film “Flamin’ Hot”, directed by Eva Longoria (in her directorial debut), demonstrating extraordinary authenticity and energy that captured the attention of the entire audience. Over the past few years, Becky G has treated us to some huge hits, such as “Sin Pijama” (featuring Natti Natasha) and, more recently, “Arranca” featuring Omega; in short, she is one of the queens of reggaeton, a musical genre that’s always a hit at your private parties: she often gets the dancing started and is perfect for creating moments that really bring people together, perhaps drawing on the repertoire of the great classics from Daddy Yankee as “Petrol” and “Limbo”, for example.

But the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the performance by Ryan Gosling with “I’m Just Ken”, accompanied by a dazzling choreography featuring 60 dancers. The performance, with its cinematic atmosphere and Gosling’s magnetic presence, won over the audience and wrote an unforgettable chapter in the history of the Oscars.

Furthermore, we mustn’t forget the musical hits associated with the film “Barbie”, such as Dua Lipa’s song Dance the Night; Dua Lipa has not only contributed a track to the film’s soundtrack, but also features in the cast, playing the role of Barbie Serena. Her track is a true tribute to the 1970s, an explosion of dance music with lyrics that invite you to have fun: Dua Lipa She sings about an evening when she just wants to put on her make-up and heels and then go out to have fun and dance. “Barbie: The Album” is the title of the soundtrack album, and alongside Dua Lipa, it features big names from the international music scene such as Nicki Minaj, Karol G, Lizzo and Charli XCX.

AN IMPORTANT QUOTE FROM THE 1990s

Another track that caused quite a stir, particularly over the summer, but which continues to make its mark even today, is Tiesto’s remix of the famous song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua (released in 1997), a true anthem of the the 90s (see HERE (one of our 90s-themed parties). This remix retains the original structure of the track, which has had people all over the world dancing and having fun, but updates the sound to make it even more engaging and suited to modern times. The result is a fantastic effect on the dance floor, with a mix that captivates both those nostalgic for the ’90s and today’s young people. Often used as a “bridge” to introduce moments of ’90s revival, this track is loved by all generations and manages to create an unforgettable party atmosphere.
