Frankie Knuckles: Farewell to the “Godfather of house music”

A GREAT INNOVATOR – “The Godfather of House Music”, one of the pioneers of house music and the creator of some of the finest house tracks produced between the late 1980s and the early 1990s, has passed away at the age of 59. He was among the first to introduce the mixing technique, and he was among the first to use three or more “plates” simultaneously to insert sound effects when moving from one track to the next.
“YOUR LOVE” – HIS MASTERPIECE – His career took off and he began producing music. His first remix was in 1982 for the track “Let no man put us under” by First Choice, but his career really took a turn with the production of “Your Love“: still one of the masterpieces of house music today.
PASSION WAS HIS DRIVING FORCE – Like all the truly great ones, he wasn’t a “superstar” DJ, but a character modest and he’s kept his feet firmly on the ground, despite his international acclaim: for his remixes of songs by Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, in 1997 he won a Grammy.
Frankie has always approached his work with such immense passion that it led him to revolutionise the world of clubbing and never give up: just think that despite his illness leading to the amputation of one of his feet six years ago, he carried on right to the end, hosting nights in the nightclubs of “his” Chicago (which has named a street after him) and beyond.
