DJ4@ DJARCH in Milan: with the architects, at the decks

Here at DJ4, following our engagement at the Milan Design Week We are returning to work in the design sector, thanks to our collaboration with Towant (a public relations agency specialising in architecture) to DJARCH, a music event that has now become a fixture on the Milanese scene (and beyond). The event’s tagline sums up the spirit of the project very well: «Music is architecture when the architect is the DJ»: for one evening, the architects transform themselves into sound designer, working alongside professional DJs to mix their own playlists live, and showcasing their sound projects in showrooms on the most famous design streets.

At every store (we at DJ4, with Jody Belli, we were assigned to Minotti Kitchens in Via Larga, where our DJ set took place) three architectural practices were involved: “our” architects are Barreca & La Varra, Matteo Nunzianti e MABB Studio. Some chose music from the 70s and 80s, others went for ’Made in Italy’, and others for the 2000s: here’s how it all went! We’ll give you a sneak peek right away, though, as to how it ended: after a laid-back start to accompany the aperitif, the event turned into a huge party, both inside and outside the shop, with our music playing until late into the night. But let’s take it one step at a time.

DJ ARCH: A HUGE PARTY WHERE FUN AND STYLE COME TOGETHER

Barreca & La Varra have presented a playlist comprising exclusively songs from 2008, the year the practice was founded: a very effective way to celebrate its anniversary during DJARCH!

At the helm, the young general managers Caterina and Claudio, who put together a selection with a touch of Italian music and a trio of songs that we “wore out” back then (and not just then): Rihanna’s hugely popular “Please Don’t Stop the Music”, Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’ and Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’, which we played in a more ‘upbeat’ remixed version.

Matteo Nunzianti, owner of the studio of the same name, presented, alongside his partner, a high-energy playlist celebrating the legendary the 1980s.

The set opens with *La isla bonita* by Madonna, before ramping up the BPM, moving on to ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ by Cindy Lauper, which sent all the young ladies in the audience into a frenzy. The crowd favourite: ‘L’estate sta finendo’ by Righeira, true Italian icons of the 80s, who really got everyone dancing and singing along. And to round things off, the slow number on the playlist: the beautiful ‘Sunshine Reggae’ by Laid Back.

The MABB Studio The full line-up (Andrea Baselli, Riccardo Belinci and Sara Magnone), who were particularly “wild” at the decks, were in fact the official spokespeople for the “Made in Italy”, which is so highly regarded when it comes to design.

To kick off the DJ set, two sophisticated and timeless “gems”: ‘Parole parole’ by Mina in the lounge version by Montefiori Cocktail and ‘50mila’ by Nina Zilli featuring Giuliano Palma, before moving on to the current hits and the dance sounds of the Subsonica (Labyrinth Disc) and Cosmo (The Last Party).

In short, the variety It was certainly not missing from the proposals put forward by “our” architects, with whom we struck up a great rapport in the control room!
And after the performances by the studios, our event began Solo DJ set“ (actually, at the start, with Riccardo on the mic) who kept the audience entertained until late in the evening with a mix of current hits and the best of the 80s and 90s, with everyone getting fully involved.
