DJ for a 50th birthday party: Giuseppe and Antonella

Happy Birthday, Giuseppe! Just a stone’s throw from Milan, at the Casale San Vito, we have created the 50th birthday party by Giuseppe, in collaboration with his wife Antonella, who got in touch with us to make this event extra special! The aim was to reminisce about the old days when the guest of honour used to go to the Capriccio nightclub (near Bergamo; it was the nightclub run by RTL). In particular, the song that best evoked that period was ‘P:MACHINERY’ by Propaganda, and it was with this very track that we kicked off the evening!

The selection recommended by Giuseppe, who had just turned fifty, focused on the period around the middle of the 1980s to the early 1990s (with a few “digressions” towards the late 90s). Some of the songs we played: USURA – Open your mind; THE TWINS – Face to face, heart to heart; SIMPLE MINDS – New gold dream; DEAD OR ALIVE – You spin me round; DOCTOR AND THE MEDICS – Spirit in the Sky; TECHNOTRONIC – Pump Up the Jam; RUN DMC – It’s Like That; EIFFEL 65 – Blue; DEPECHE MODE – I Just Can’t Get Enough; DURAN DURAN and many others.

Her partner, the ever-so-charming Antonella, had decidedly more modern tastes, however: in her Wish List, there were many dance hit by this summer, such as the MAJOR LAZER with “Light it up” (remix), or IMANY with “Don’t be so shy” (remix). In short, two seemingly very different styles, but… we at DJ4 – specifically, Mr Ricky, who was manning the decks – managed, by ‘measuring out’ and ‘blending’ the ingredients to perfection, to get everyone – and I mean absolutely everyone – dancing!

And then… the grand finale with a slow piece (the only one of the evening, but one that was really very well received), the beautiful I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelly.
