The’summer 2024 It’s finally here and, as it does every year, the music scene is set to be dominated by summer hits. These tracks, often characterised by infectious beats and catchy melodies, become the soundtrack to our holidays, accompanying us to the beach, to parties and on summer evenings.

Artists across all musical genres work hard to create the perfect mix of sounds that will get the audience dancing and singing in the sunshine. Summer hits are not just songs, but genuine cultural phenomena that define the summer and leave an indelible mark on the memories of those who listen to them.

The competition to create the summer hit is fierce, and only a few manage to stand out from the myriad of releases. Among this year’s contenders are some well-known names who have already proven they know how to create hit songs, as well as new talents looking to make their mark.

But What are the summer hits of 2024?? Let’s find out which tracks are defining this season. Let’s start with the Italian hits.

If the song from the’summer 2023 is, according to many, Italodisco, The Kolors, this year, with “Karma” They’re not doing too well: the track, which tells the story of a love affair that’s come to an end, is catchy but isn’t a real hit.

Annalisa and Tananai: the couple of summer 2024?

A big comeback is also on the cards for summer 2024 from Tananai and Annalisa; who separated last year (Annalisa with “Disco Paradise” featuring Fedez and Articolo 3; Tananai with ”Un altro mondo” by Merk & Kremont featuring Marracash) and now joined by what appears to be one of the official catch-phrases: “Short Stories”, With its retro melody and romantic lyrics, this song is perfect for singing at the top of your lungs on summer evenings. Incidentally, this track won the Power Hit Estate award from RTL 102.5: For a full ten weeks, it topped the charts for the most-streamed and most-voted-for songs.

Elodie, known for its catchphrases from years gone by (remember “Tribale”, “Crazy music” with Marco Mengoni?) in this sweltering summer of 2024, presents “Black Nirvana”: A track that’s perfect for dancing, marking a new artistic era for Elodie.​

Another female star of 2024, Rose Villain, that with “Like a clap of thunder”, featuring Gué, is still going strong, even though the track was released quite a while (perhaps too long) in advance to “last” the whole summer.

And the bnkr44, fresh from the success of the remake of “Ma quale idea” by the recently deceased Pino d’Angiò, they’re giving it a go with SUMMER 80 taking a leaf out of last year’s Italodisco book; they’ve used a sample by Alan Sorrenti, an icon of the 80s, and it’s working a treat so far!

Boomdabash and Elettra: a summer that wasn’t exactly… electrifying

“Love U Hate” by Boomdabash: Carefree spirit and light-heartedness are at the heart of this track, even if it lacks that “extra something” found in some of the band’s other hits from previous summers (for example, “”Salento Mambo” and “Karaoke“, sung by Alessandra Amoroso, which this year has “set up on its own” and created “Half-broken”: a hit with nearly four and a half million views on YouTube.
And also Elettra Lamborghini seems to have lost some of that ’magic touch“; in fact, ”Say, Do, Kiss” (Feat Shade), which, despite having racked up 1 million views on YouTube in less than a month, isn’t really making much of a difference, just like “Caramel”, in 2023.

Italian hip hop: one catch-phrase and a host of hits have cemented this genre’s status

And as for hip hop, we’d like to highlight three tracks below that are in high demand, particularly amongst younger audiences (there hasn’t been a single 18th birthday party we’ve played at in recent months where we haven’t played them to great acclaim): first and foremost, “Sex and Samba” by  Tony Effe e Gaia. This track blends pop and Latin elements, and is already a hit in the charts. In fact, to tell the truth, according to many experts, it will probably the “official” song of Summer 2024. We’ll see!

Mahmood , “RA TA TA” is doing well, although it’s not exactly a smash hit; one gets the impression that, following “Tuta Gold” – the spring smash hit – Mahmood wanted to go for something that works, without, however, ‘chasing a hit’ at all costs.

Capo Plaza, with “Until Dawn”, Coma Cose with “Underworld” and ANNA (who we’ll also see in the dance section) with “Bikini” There are three other contestants who have made their mark this season; in particular, Come Cose stand out for the originality of their song.

On the other hand, they haven’t really taken off Ghali and her Paprika, and, above all, the trio of rappers (Articolo 31, Fabri Fibra and Rocco Hunt) fell short of expectations with their performance of “Peyote“: It went rather unnoticed, despite the big names involved in the project.

Summer 2024 Songs: when Italian music meets dance music

But let’s really start to pick up the pace with two tracks:

“Sexy Shop” by Fedez and Emis Killa: A mix of pop-dance and rap marking Fedez’s return to the music scene, enhanced by his collaboration with Emis Killa. A track that’s perfect for dancing, which is also doing really well on the radio. Just like the hit “30 degrees” by Anna, which, thanks to a very catchy chorus “really tanned, absolutely lovely” is competing with Tony Effe’s song, “Sesso e Samba”, to become the “official” hit of summer 2024. Already a Platinum-certified track, as of today (late August 2024) it is the song that has spent the longest time at number one on this year’s Spotify singles chart (seven consecutive weeks at the top, and it currently remains at number 2 on the singles chart).

The Payer & Fabio Rovazzi They formalised their official collaboration with the track “Maranza”, which features an important quote from the 1990s: “Think about the way” by Ice-T. Straight from 1994.

And we round off our round-up of Italian dance hits with the evergreen Raffaella Carrà: His 1980 hit, “Pedro”, has been remixed by Jaxomy & Agatino Romero: the result? It’s a massive hit across Europe!

The latest international dance and house tracks: a breath of fresh air… from Sweden

The summer of 2024 will also be remembered for the welcome return of a legendary act in the world of dance music: the Swedish House Mafia; with Niki & The Dove, they came out into the open with “Lioness”. A track that’s somewhat reminiscent of their past hits, but also stays fairly true to current musical trends: in short… it gets the thumbs up!

E David Guetta? It’s not summer without the French DJ! And in the summer of 2024, he did an encore. With “Man in Finance”, the result of a “clever” move, which turned a social media catchphrase into a hit song, and with “Don’t Wanna Wait”, in collaboration with OneRepublic; based on the chorus of “Dragostea din tei”, a hit from 2004, it’s a massive hit across Europe.

Among the dance and house tracks worth highlighting this summer of 2024 is the return of a DJ who, although she has only been on the scene for a few years, is making a name for herself through her credibility and talent: The Blessed Madonna, with “Count On My Love”

And to round off our round-up of international dance, let’s mention the Disclosure A British electronic music group comprising the brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence. “She’s Gone, Dance On” is a tribute to the catchy, rhythmic music of the 1970s, which differs from the typical “summer sound” that draws inspiration from Latin music.

Not often danced to, but very well known, as it is the theme tune for the European Football Championship, “Fire” by Meduza; “”, on the other hand, really gets you jumping, “I like the way you kiss me” of the Artemas, although it isn’t… technically a dance track, but a pop song; particularly at the international parties we’ve organised over the past few weeks, the audience’s response has been remarkable.

And, still on the subject of pop music, the queen of this genre, Dua Lipa – what’s she been up to? We haven’t forgotten! “Illusion” is, as always, a “stylish” and upbeat track. We’re looking forward to a great remix that’ll give us the chance to “get it going” in the club too.

Latin music and summer: a bond that remains as strong as ever

As for the reggaeton, there aren’t many tracks that have gone mainstream; among the most successful, “If Only I’d Met You Before” by Karol G and “Hard” by Mira, which doesn’t get the party going quite like the most popular reggaeton hits of yesteryear (such as “Limbo”, for example), but is a good way to get the dancing started. Shakira’s latest hit, “Aiming”, which was released in the spring but is still popular, and the most recent “Mexican” by Hugel, a track that’s perfect for dancing, with a sound that straddles club music and Latin rhythms.
