Spring 2021: loads of new dance tracks for your party
Friends of DJ4 Here we are again with a music update, which, this time, we hope will soon mean we can get back to celebrating with you. We’re almost there – in fact, live shows have already resumed: live concerts have been held over the last two months without any rise in infections (for example, in Barcelona, Liverpool and Wuhan in China). And soon we’ll be back to get you dancing too. In the meantime, here’s the line-up, in order of appearance on our “10 songs in 10 minutes”, the songs of spring 2021… which we’ll most likely be listening to well into the summer too.
Let’s start with the first track that opens our mix: Montero (Call Me By Your Name), by the rapper Lil Nas X, is more than just a single, more than just a video. It is a genuine letter written by Lil Nas X to his younger self, an invitation to stand up for one’s identity, to be oneself regardless of any prejudice. The quote in brackets refers to André Aciman’s novel, on which Luca Guadagnino’s beautiful film is based, whilst the track’s release was accompanied by an Instagram post.
Turning to R&B, however, this spring’s big hit (which debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100) is undoubtedly Peaches by Justin Bieber featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon.
Another collaboration is the one for “Titans“, with which the Major Lazer (Diplo in particular) are back, following the success of the supergroup LSD, to work with Sia and Labrinth once again. ‘Titans’ is a brilliant, upbeat reggaeton track that’s sure to get the dance floor packed at your DJ4 parties, probably this summer too.
And our “10 songs in 10 minutes” continues with a bit of dance music: two genuine superstars from two different continents are behind one of this spring’s most interesting tracks. We’re talking about Alok, a South American DJ who has, amongst other things, recently produced a number of remixes featuring international pop stars (Dua Lipa e Medusa) and of Timmy Trumpet, an Australian DJ, trumpeter and record producer (he is behind the hugely popular 2015 track “Freaks”). The remix by La Vision (aka Marco Sissa, best known for the track “Hollywood”, a collaboration with Gigi D’Agostino) ensures that this track Underwater Love (LA Vision Extended Remix) in our hearts!
Another slice of Italy, with Very light music by Colapesce and Dimartino. Having made its debut at the Sanremo Festival, it has quickly climbed the Italian charts. We’re naturally bringing you the remix version – which has just been released – of the legendary Cerrone: a vintage and captivating atmosphere for a party hit!
It hasn’t just been released (in fact, it dates back to last year) but it’s still going strong – the track by Saint John – Roses (Imanbek Remix). It’s still a massive hit and is a natural fit for DJ4’s playlist – one that’ll be played for years to come!
It would have been a shame if it hadn’t featured in DJ4’s chart of the best spring hits, Purple Disco Machine? With Fireworks, the German DJ has pulled off another masterstroke, following on from his 2020 hits, *Hypnotized* (featuring Sophie and the Giants) and *Exotica* (featuring Mind Enterprises).
Let’s change the sound and rhythm with two dance tracks strongly influenced by 90s dance music: Riton x Nightcrawlers – Friday and ‘Your Love (9PM)’ by ATB, Topic and A7S. Let’s start with the first one. ‘Friday’ is a single by British DJ Riton, based on ‘Push the Feeling On’ (from 1992) by the Scottish band Nightcrawlers (it was a global hit, and was also a big hit in Italian nightclubs).
Let’s get back to talking about love with Your Love (9pm) by ATB, Topic e A7S. To tell the truth, the real love is what we at DJ4 feel for ‘9 PM (Till I Come)’, a track from 1998 that made dance music history, and of which ‘Your Love’ is the first official remix. Our love is confirmed: mission accomplished!
And we’ll finish with another remix, this time of a hugely popular hit from the 1970s, Rasputin, of the Boney M (a band that has sold 150 million records), remixed by a DJ Majestic (yet another British artist) producer at KISS FM. A brilliant track: fresh, catchy sounds with a touch of retro, which are getting us all dancing… for now… on our own. And rest assured, we’ll all be dancing to it together very soon! See you at the next DJ4 party!
